An open Bible on stage during Sunday teaching at Journey Church

What we believe

Historic, Bible-based Christianity.

Journey is non-denominational, which means we're not tied to a particular denomination, but we are rooted in the core doctrines of the historic Christian faith. Our beliefs line up with the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds.

Core values

Six values that hold our theology together.

Swipe through how we translate belief into practice: every Sunday, every midweek, every room.

Value 01

Holy Scriptures · Live the Word

We honor the Word of God. The Word is God-breathed, living, and active; it is the very voice of our Father, shaping how we think, live, and lead. If you want to hear the voice of God, open the Word of God. We don’t bend Scripture to fit culture; we let it form us in His presence, because His Word is the only truth and it never returns void.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 · Hebrews 4:12 · Isaiah 55:11

Value 02

Prayer · Pray Boldly

We are a praying church. We pray before we act. We pray bold, faith-filled prayers because we serve a God who does the impossible. We don’t default to worry; we live in the Father’s presence, knowing He heals, saves, provides, and moves mountains when His people pray.

Philippians 4:6-7 · Hebrews 4:16 · Matthew 17:20

Value 03

Love · Loved People, Love People

We love deeply, not surface level. As fully loved sons and daughters who abide in His presence, we will love like Jesus loves: patient, kind, faithful, and committed. That means loving people who are not like us, and we’re committed to having difficult conversations. We don’t love when it’s convenient; we love when it costs us, forgiving even our enemies, because that’s what Christ did for us.

1 John 4:19 · 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 · John 13:34-35 · Matthew 5:44

Value 04

Spirit-Led · Walk in the Spirit

We walk in the Spirit, following His leading in both fruit and power. The Holy Spirit is God’s presence in us, and in His presence, everything is easy. The gifts of the Spirit flow naturally when He is near. Like Moses, we say, “If Your presence does not go up with us, do not take us up from here.” His fruit is evident in us, His power flows through us, and His Church is built up. We desire God’s gifts, but we desire God’s heart far more.

Galatians 5:22-23 · Exodus 33:15 · Acts 1:8 · 1 Corinthians 14:1

Value 05

Discipleship · Never Stop

We never stop becoming like Jesus. We are disciples who make disciples, growing in biblical community, with each generation building the next. Discipleship is His plan for transformation, and we are changed in His presence as we take up our cross daily and follow Jesus. We prioritize spiritual maturity over spiritual hype.

Matthew 28:19-20 · Luke 9:23 · 2 Corinthians 3:18 · 2 Timothy 2:2

Value 06

Evangelism · Be the Church

The Church isn’t a building; it’s a people. Because we have been given undeserved love and the gift of His presence, we will give it away. Freely we have received; freely we give. From our neighborhoods to the nations, we go into every area of influence God sends us, bringing the gospel of Jesus. We don’t just invite people to a service; we carry the living presence of God into a lost and hurting world.

A House Built for His Presence.

Statement of faith

Eight doctrines. No asterisks.

Tap any heading for the full statement and the Scripture that grounds it. Together, these form Journey's statement of faith.

01The Trinity

We believe in one God who has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. The three are co-equal and co-eternal: one God in essence, three distinct persons in relationship.

The doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation for everything else we believe. It's the reason we pray in Jesus' name, worship by the Spirit, and approach God as Father.

Scripture: Matthew 28:19 · 2 Corinthians 13:14 · 1 Peter 1:2 · John 1:1-14
02The Bible

We believe the Bible (the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments) is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It is without error in its original writings and is the final authority for every matter of faith and practice.

We read it together, and we measure every message and song against it. Scripture outranks every other voice in the room.

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 · 2 Peter 1:20-21 · Hebrews 4:12
03Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, rose bodily from the grave on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return to judge the living and the dead.

There is no Christianity without the bodily resurrection of Jesus. It's the hinge that everything else swings on.

Scripture: John 1:1-14 · 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 · Philippians 2:5-11 · Hebrews 4:15
04Salvation

We believe salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. It is God's gift, not the result of human effort, moral performance, or religious activity. Everyone who repents and trusts in Jesus as Savior and Lord is forgiven of sin, adopted into God's family, and given eternal life.

You can't earn it. You can't lose it by the size of your failure. You can only receive it.

Scripture: Ephesians 2:8-9 · Romans 10:9-10 · John 3:16 · Titus 3:5
05Baptism

We practice water baptism by full immersion for every believer after a personal decision to trust in Jesus. Baptism doesn't save, but it is a command of Jesus and the first public step of obedience, a picture of dying and rising with Christ.

If you've put your faith in Jesus and haven't been baptized as a believer, we'd love to baptize you. No hurdles, no classes. Just a decision.

Scripture: Matthew 28:19 · Acts 2:38 · Romans 6:3-4
06The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, fully God, who indwells every believer the moment they trust in Jesus. He convicts of sin, produces the fruit of Christlikeness, and empowers the church for mission through spiritual gifts.

We believe the gifts of the Spirit (including prophecy, healing, and tongues) are active and available today, and we pursue them in a way that builds up the church and exalts Jesus.

Scripture: Acts 2 · John 14:16-17 · 1 Corinthians 12-14 · Galatians 5:22-23
07The Church

We believe the Church is the body of Christ, made up of every believer across history, nation, and denomination, and that the local church is a gathered community of believers who worship, teach Scripture, baptize, take communion, and serve their city together.

The local church is not optional. It is God's primary plan for forming disciples and sending them out.

Scripture: Ephesians 4:11-16 · Acts 2:42-47 · Hebrews 10:24-25
08Prayer

We believe prayer is direct, personal, confident access to God the Father through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit. God hears and answers the prayers of His people: sometimes with a yes, sometimes with a no, sometimes with a wait.

We practice corporate prayer, personal prayer, intercession, prayer ministry after services, and prayer for healing. Prayer is the first response, not the last resort.

Scripture: Matthew 6:9-13 · Philippians 4:6-7 · James 5:13-16 · Hebrews 4:16

Believing together is better.

If what you just read sounds like home, come and see it Sunday. We'd love to meet you.
